Cure Found: Finals Fever epidemic over

09:51 PM, Sunday, 02nd December 2007

After months of stem cell research and human behavioural analysis, researchers have discovered a cure for the debilitating disease which is Finals Fever. Researchers are now 99.9% sure that a cold drink and a night of thrilling spectator sport will cure even the worst cases of Finals Fever. Symptoms of Finals Fever include an increased heart rate, constant butterflies and an insatiable desire for a premiership medallion... Come down and join the RAID competition to control anxiety, but if symptoms persist, please see your healthcare professional.

WOW...what a night. Noise records were broken at the Nunawadng Community Centre last Friday night due to the excitement a tremendous night of finals brought us. Commuters on the 8:15pm Flinders St train had to block their ears as they passed the centre due to noise pollution with the courtside doors needing to be opened to relieve the pressure that had built up inside.

The Blue Comets completed their clean sweep win of their play-off series against the Blue Hawks. Although a scratch match again was the result, it was played in good spirit and displayed some great skills. Then it was time for the big one. All Stars V Lightning Bolts, Division 1 Grand Final, the stage was set. After a very close first stanza, the All Stars put their foot down in the second giving them a very handy lead going into the final third. Some brilliant power plays by some of the Lightning Bolts premiere players chipped away at the All Stars lead. Fortunately for the All Stars, the siren came a bit too soon for the Lightning Bolts, with a goal on the final siren sealing and All Stars victory. Congratulations to all netball teams this year. It wasn't optimal conditions or scenarios all year round, but without much fuss everyone tried the best they could so all players, coaches and spectators are thanked for their patience and enthusiasm.

Netball Grand Final Results
Blue Comets (3) Def. Blue Hawks (0)
All Stars (20) Def. Lightning Bolts (18)

Basketball saw two free flowing and highly skilled matches. First off the Kookaburras had too much man power for an undermanned Chadstone. It was a high scoring affair, but at the end of the day, the Kookaburras with an extra man on court were able to link up that little bit easier. Some team building over summer however will see Chadstone return to full strength in 2008. The decibels reached fever pitch for the start of the Division 1 Basketball Grand Final. The Emus shot out quickly from the blocks and held a good lead for most of the first half. The Tigers closed the gap however and it was 10 a piece at half time. Tight marking by the Tigers and poor shooting by the Emus was the story of the second half, with the Emus only able to add 2 points in the entire second half. This was in contrast to a massive 21 points by the Tigers and as they say in the classics, "That was the ball game".

Basketball Grand Final Results
Kookaburras (46) Def. Chadstone (25)
Emus (12) Def. by Tigers (31)

Now we look forward to RAID Presentation night were we celebrate the year that was and reward the individual efforts that help make the RAID competition what it is today.

Game On for RAID Grand Finals

06:33 PM, Sunday, 25th November 2007

It's upon us once again. The hype and expectation of what promisses to be the most exiting night of finals for years is amazing. As players left the Nunawading Community Centre after a bruising night of Preliminary finals last Friday Night, you could sense the antisipation for what the folling week will bring...

The Blue Comets were crowned division 2 permiers taking out the second match of the three match playoff against the Blue Hawks and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead. After the dead rubber match this week they will receive their rewards after a tough season. The unprecedented excitement surrounding the following match nearly lifted the roof of the stadium. Not since the finals of '93 had the RAID comeptition been so excited about a Preliminary Final. Their last meeting resulted in a tie, would this match have the same result an be forced into overtime? Seemingly not. From the outset the Lighting Bolts took command of the match racing to a unbeatable lead by the end of the first stanza. Despite a spirited fight, the Golden Hawks were unable to match the star qualities of the Lightning Bolts outfit. Commiserations to the Golden Hawks and congratulations to the Lightning Bolts who will now play the All Stars in next week division 1 Grand Final. What a match that promisses to be.

Netball Prelimainary Final Results
Blue Hawks (Forfeit) Def. by Blue Comets
Golden Hawks (6) Def. by Lightning Bolts (26)

Basketball finals are always exciting, but these matches raised the bar. The noise from the gallery was intense, with mainainence needing to be called during the week to fix lights which shattered from the decibels screaming from the crowds lungs. Chadstone won their final after the dissapointment of not being able to field a team last week against a deffiant Globetrotters. Although the Globetrotters would have nearly won the posession ercentage over the match, their inaccuracy around the goals cost them. Chadstone now face a much fancied Kookaburras in the division 2 Grand Final this Friday. The Tigers and demons then faced off in the division 1 prelim. The lead changed hands a number of times throughout the match with the Tigers just ahead at the half time break after a 2 minute burt of power by their stars. Sharp shooting by the Demons kept things close, in the seocond half, but the goal scoring power of the Tigers just prooved too dominant. What a Grand Final it will be next week. The deffencive power of the Emus against the all out attack of the tigers. Game On!

Basketball Preliminary Final Results
Chadstone (32) Def. Globetrotters (16)
Demons (22) Def. by Tigers (33)
