FIDA Match Reports Rnd 3

08:24 PM, Sunday, 27th April 2008

Division 1:

Nth Balllarat Knights 1: 12  9  81  were too strong for Mambourin Tigers  1  3  9 in perfect conditions at Sports Cover Arena in Elsternwick. Mambourin played well and kept their heads up all day but Ballarat were far too skilled on the day. Port Colts 11 8 74  played a steady game and proved to be the better side on the day against an enthusiastic Broadmeadows Kangaroos 2  2  14.  Port Colts were impressive on the big main arena and were able to outrun Broadmeadows all day. Kananook Tigers 1: 18  19  127 were far too skilled and quick for Bulleen Templestowe 1  1  7. Bulleen had a number of players away and Kananook played well on their home patch. In the last game for the round in division 1 Ovens and Murray Jets 11  7  73 were able to hold Lara to only 4  4  20.  A win for the O & M team makes their long trip home go that little bit faster.

Tips For Round 4:

Nth Ballarat Knights 1 will continue on their winning away although expect Broadmeadows Kangaroos to benefit from the weeks rest and a chance to rethink their game plan. Port Colts and Kananook Tigers 1 should play a very entertaining game and it could be the close one for the day. Going on form it looks like Kananook may just win but I expect Port Colts to push them all the way. Lara host Bulleen Templestowe both teams needing a win. The home advantage for Lara may give them their first win of the year. Mambourin Tigers  travel to Albury to play the O & M Jets. The Mambourin team needs a win to get their season back on track but O & m at home is a hard ask. I expect the home ground advantage to get O & M Jets over the line.

Division 2:

Kananook Tigers 2:  7  17  59  were too skilled for Parkside 1  3  9 who lost their first game for the season. Maribyrnong Bulldogs 14  13  97  were far too strong for Ringwood Spiders 3  1  19.  Maribyrnong  had a huge reversal of form  and surprised everyone who tipped against them this week.  Mazenod 13  19  97  ran away from Broadmeadows Kangaroos 2: 2  1  13.  Broadmeadows tried hard all day but were no match for the pace of Mazenod.  In the last game Moonee Valley Magpies 9  7  61 just got over the line against Nth Ballarat 2: 9  5  59. t was great game with the lead changing on a number of occasions throughout the day.

Tips For Round 4:

Maribyrnong Bulldogs play Moonee Valley Magpies with both teams coming of good wins. I think that Maribyrnong may just struggle against Moonee Valley who are hosting the Bulldogs under lights on a Friday night at Ormond Oval. Nth Ballarat Knights 2: will return to the winning list against Broadmeadows Kangaroos who are having a difficult start to season 2008. Ringwood Spiders come up against Kananook Tigers 2 and will have to play above themselves to post a win against the Kananook Tigers who look very competitive this year. The game of the day looks like being Parkside who are coming off a shock loss to Kananook 2 against  the Mazenod Panthers who played an impressive long kicking game against Broadmeadows in round three. Mazenod will be able to use their home ground advantage to defeat the impressive Parkside combination.

Congratulations to all teams so far this year as the games I have seen have been played in a good competitive spirit. Continue to shake hands with your opposition both before and after the game and get to know your opponents. Remember alcohol is not permitted at F.I.D.A. games. It is up to coaches and club officials to lead by example by being good role models for their players. The umpires decision is final and umpires should be respected at all times.  The F.I.D.A. executive will not tolerate umpires being abused or threatened in anyway.

F.I.D.A Round 2

FIDA Round 2

Division 1:

Round 2 began with Nth Ballarat Knights 15  12  102  playing a scratch match against an undermanned Lara 1  2  8.  Port Colts 9  9  63 opened their account for the season against Bulleen/ Templestowe 2  4  16. Kananook Tigers 17  15  117 were too experienced for Mambourin Tigers 1  0  6.  Ovens & Murray jets played their first game for the year kicking 7  6  48 to Broadmeadows Kangaroos  3  7  25. Although the margins were again very large the game were contested in good spirit and the players are to be congratulated for their discipline.

Tips For Round Three:

Port Colts play Broadmeadows Kangaroos in what should be close game I think Broadmeadows may just get over the line and stay in the top four. Lara play Ovens & Murray Jets and may have to wait another week to post a win as the Jets look good this year. Nth Ballarat look like cementing their spot on the top of the ladder as they should be too good for the young Mambourin side. Kananook Tigers should be too strong at home for the quick running Bulleen Templestowe.

Division 2:

Kananook Tigers 2:  11  14  80  were too strong for the young inexperienced Mazenod 1    6  14.  Parkside 13  9  87  continued to impress against an undermanned Maribyrnong 1  0  6. Moonee Valley Magpies 13  23  101 were impressive against Broadmeadows Kangaroos 0  4  4 who are still working on their new game plan. Nth Ballarat Knights 2: 8  6  54 struggled to defeat a determined Ringwood Spiders 1  4  10.

Tips For Round 3:

Mazenod Panthers may be too quick for Broadmeadows Kangaroos 2 who are team building at the moment. Moonee Valley Magpies and Nth Ballarat 2: should play a very close game with the Magpies just getting over the line. Parkside will continue on their winning way but will be taken to the wire by Kananook 2. Ringwood Spiders should get their first points for the year against Maribyrnong who are having a slow start to the season.

Good luck to all teams playing on the weekend.

Fabulous February Finish Draws Near

07:43 PM, Sunday, 24th February 2008

Well, we are are nearly month into the RAID competition for 2008 and hasn't it flown by. Some brilliant oncourt action has provided endless entertainment for the flood of spectators that we see every Friday night. If you haven't yet had a RAID Friday night experience, in the words of Molly Meldrum, 'Do yourself a favour' and get down and have a look sometime in the near future, becasue you're sure not to be disappointed. The only worrying sign for RAID this year has been the netball numbers. The Blue Hawks are struggling to even put a team on the court and there is a severe shortage of girls throughout the comepetition. Ladies, get on board and sign up some friends to fill team vacancies and ensure the longivity of the compertition.

Netball Results:
All Stars Def. Blue Hawks (Forfeit)
Blue Comets (20) Def. Golden Hawks (15)

Basketball Results:
Emus (24) Def. Chadstone (19)
Kookaburras (53) Def. Tigers (22)
Demons (24) Def. Globetrotters (12)

RAID Week 3

07:27 PM, Sunday, 17th February 2008

A magical summers days was followed by a brilliant evening of competition last Friday night. A one point thriller was played out by the All Stars and Golden Hawks, with the All Stars just getting their noses infront at the final siren. Basketball again was fast and furious with the skills and endeavour shown by the players at a very high level. The only blemish on the night was a knee injury to Emus star player David Buckle, but it is hoped that he makes a quick recovery and can get back on the court soon.

Netball Results
All Stars (18) Def. Golden Hawks (17)
Lightning Bolts Def. Blue Comets (Forfeit)

Basketball Results
Demons (43) Def. Tigers (24)
Kookaburras (30) Def. Emus (4)
Globetrotters (44) Def. Chadstone (26)
