Swimming Australia Workshop

11:57 PM, Wednesday, 26th November 2008

In 2008 the Paralympic Program would like to conduct a total of twelve disability workshops for professional development. Four workshops will be held in Victoria, QLD and NSW and these workshops will assist learn to swim teachers and swim schools.

Each workshops will highlight and give exposure to a swim schools disability programme, developcommunity awareness of learn to swim programs for people with disabilities and also gives National identification of disability learn to swim programs.

Learn to swim teachers will have opportunity to increase professional skills and knowledge workingwith swimmer’s with a disability. The workshops have land and water sessions, and teachers attending

will do all sessions from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

All workshops are FREE to teachers and to attend, all teachers must fill in a registration form. Thereare limited numbers for each workshop, so a first in basis will apply. Teachers do not need to bequalified in teaching disabilities but they are required to be a qualified learn to swim teacher and teachers will receive Austswim re-registration points.

Around Australia there are many excellent learn to swim programs that include disability swimmers

and this is an opportunity for these programs and teachers to be showcased nationally.

RAID Update

08:39 PM, Tuesday, 30th September 2008

RAID has been humming along so far in season two of 2008. An injection of new players has seen our netball teams able to feild  full teams every week, and similarly in the basketball, all teams are playing to near full strength. The weather has began to warm up and so has the competition it seems, with a very close contest in both the netball and basketball.
The netball ladder has a clear leader, the Blue Hawks, out in front, but it is a tight battle for the remaining positions right down to last place. We look forward to some close matches as teams battle it out for division one and two spots in the finals.
The basketball ladder is close all over, with the highly fancied Kookaburras loosing the top spot to Chadstone last week. In a first Vs second showdown last week the Kookaburras prevailed and reclaimed their top spot. It's close all the way to the bottom with the Demons only a game or two off moving up the ladder. Again it will be some terrific spectating as teams warm up for finals time.
Feel free to come down and experience the RAID competition. It is a fantastic social netball and basketball competition for people with a disability. For more information on coaching, plaing or volunteering please call Matt on 9877 9333 or send an email to raid@erls.net.
Finally, the RAID competition and ERLS would like to wish the RAID representative team good luck at the State Netball Titles on Sunday 5th October. The tournament will be held at the state netball and hockey centre in parkville and it is highly reccomended that you get down to have a look. It will be a great experience for the players and coaches involved, so
GOOD LUCK!!!!

F.I.D.A. Round 6 & City Vs Country match

07:18 PM, Wednesday, 11th June 2008

Division 1

Lara                                           4.2.26
Broadmeadows 1                       1.5.11

Kananook 1                               7.4.46
Nth Ballarat 1                            1.9.15

O & M Jets                                 7.14.56
Bulleen/Temp                           2.5.17

Mambourin Tigers                      5.7.37
Port Colts                                    3.7.25

Round 6 Match Reports

The opening game of the round was between Lara and Broadmeadows 1. This game was hard fought all day. Both teams moved the ball quickly up and down the ground but struggled to score as the last lines of defence for both teams stood tall. Eventually Lara 4  2   26  proved that straight kicking pays dividends by defeating a gallant Broadmeadows 1:  1  5  11. The next game was a replay of last years grand final with Kananook 1: 7  4  46  turning the tables on Nth Ballarat 1 : 1  9  15.  Ovens and Murray Jets 7   14   56 were too strong for Bulleen Templestowe  2  5  17.  The Jets are doing quite well in division 1 and are sitting in forth position on the ladder. The final game in division 1 was between Mambourin Tigers 5  7  37 who consolidated their place in the four with a two goal win over Port Colts 3  7  25.

Round 7  Tips:

Next round in division 1 we see Nth Ballarat 1 playing Bulleen Templestowe. Nth Ballarat should be too experienced for the Templestowe team and should have a comfortable win. Lara travel down to Frankston too play Kananook 1 and will have a long trip home as although they are playing well at the moment I cannot see them stopping the Kananook Tigers 6 game winning streak. Mambourin Tigers play Broadmeadows Kangaroos in what looks like the match of the round. The Broadmeadows Kangaroos played well last week and will give the Mambourin Tigers a run for their money. The Mambourin combo may just sneak over the line by a straight kick. Ovens And Murray Jets play Port Colts and look like winning by two to three goals on present form.

Division 2

Parkside                                      5.7.37
Nth Ballarat 2                             4.6.30

Kananook 2                              10.11.77
Maribyrnong Bulldogs               2.2.14

Moonee Valley Magpies           7.13.55
Mazenod                                   3.3.21

Ringwood  Spiders                     8.6.54
Broadmeadows 2                        1.3.9

Division 2 Round 6 Results

Parkside 5  7  37 finally kicked away in the last quarter against a very competitive Nth Ballarat Knights 2: 4  6  30. It was great game to watch with both teams playing good running football all day. Kananook Tigers 2: 10  11  77  were just to skilled and won easily against a determined Maribyrnong Bulldogs 2  2  14. The bulldogs showed a lot of heart and chased for four quarters. Moonee Valley Magpies 7  13  55  continue to play well and were to well drilled and followed team rules against Mazenod Panthers 3  3  21. The Panthers stayed in touch all day but just couldn’t bridge the gap. The last game for the round was between Ringwood Spiders and Broadmeadows Kangaroos 2. The Spiders 8  6  54 played fast running football with long kicks down the centre of the ground against a gutsy undermanned Broadmeadows Kangaroos 2: 1  3  9. I don’t know where the Kangaroos will get their first win from but it is not too far away. Congratulations to the Spiders for their first win for the season I am sure they sang their team song all the way home and may even give it a run at training.

Kooka's cap off perfect season

10:27 PM, Sunday, 01st June 2008

The Kookaburras have gone through the first season of 2008 undefeated after beating the Tigers in the Division 1 Basketball Grand Final. Some players in the Kookaburras have come of age this season after winning the division 2 Grand Final last year, and have become a force to be reckoned with this season. Congratulations to the entire team and also the coaching staff for this great achievement.

Earlier in the night, the Globetrrotters played above themselves to beat an undermanned Demons side in the Division 2 Final. Without thier usual coach, the Globetrotters rallied to rise to the challenge and beat the Demons.

In the Netball the Blue Comets were awarded the Division 2 Premiership winning their playoff against the Blue Hawks, and the Golden Hawks won the Division 1 Grand Final against a much fancied Lightning Bolts. The Golden Hawks were struggling down the bottom of the ladder a couple of years ago, but coch Carol Middleton has kept her team together and led them to a well deserved win.

Congratulations to all who played finals this season. We look forward to continuing celebrations at the presentation night on the 20th June at the Nunawading Community Centre.
